The Characters page 2

Two particular characters who crossed the Garth’s life and very few appeared in France,have experienced the same situation. They were at first enemies and then Garth’s best friends.

CAPTAIN CAIN

You will find out CAPTAIN CAIN if you buy me the stories I have on line. This character appears in "Man Hunt" (story n°13) in which Garth meets Captain Cain after his adventure with the Amazones (story N°12 unpublished in France that I also translated). In this story, he takes prisoners Professor Lumiere, Karen and Dawn in their camp and he does not agree to release them in particular Karen, of whom he is falling in love.

This man is a game hunter and likes to hunt black men (animal heads and human skulls are hung in his tent). Garth understands that he will not be able to make him change his mind. So he suggests him a challenge that a good hunter cannot refuse: becoming his prey. But he sets 1 condition: if he succeeds in joining the Arab city El Wadi distant from several hundreds of kilometers, he will free his friends. He just requires maps, food and 1/2 day in advance. Cain grants him 1 day and the man hunt begins.

Spoiler: Facing Garth’s victory, Cain is stunned by the Garth’s performance and gives to him his sincere friendship. In the next volume "Selim The Slaver" (story n°14), Cain helps Garth by offering him clothes, money and support to rescue Garth’s friends. But Cain will be killed by Selim's first officer named Dragut…

Another complex character Sam Gorgon: a human being who from birth, is afflicted with a monster face and rejected by society and who must be a monster in a circus in order to live. Then he obtains a flesh-colored mask which hides his ugly facial features and by dint of hard work, he succeeds in being rich. He appears too in the last third of the story « Selim The Slaver » where he is a Selim’s client. Because of his ugliness, he wants to buy him a slave to become his wife. As Selim, he will also be in love with Karen. But to save Garth, Dawn and Professor Lumiere, Karen agrees to marry him but refuses that Sam removes his mask in her presence. At the end of the story, Garth and Karen go with him to England (Lumiere was injured in the back by a bullet and Dawn stays with him at El Wadi). In the story n°15 "Garth and The Glove Game" (I’ve also translated ),

SAM GORGON

...Gorgon is a boxing fight organizer and his drugged champion can’t fight. So Garth replaces him and even becomes world champion after an epic fight with one arm (you will understand by reading the story). Sam, Garth and Karen become friends and Sam will marry a blind widow Sylvia (who loves Sam for his kindness and good manners and will free Karen from her word). They will met again Gorgon in the first pages of « Journey to Jason » volume 16.

-> Funny info: when Aredit in France published this story, it erased the Gorgon‘s mask which apears again in volume 19 « Wings of The Night » (also translated with dicalaem) in which there’s a happy ending - but I can not tell you more...
